Zola Jesus – Conatus
(Sacred Bones, 2011)

Don’t let the album artwork fool you, Nika Roza Danilova is still making dark, gloomy music as Zola JesusStridulum was one of the most exciting releases from a young artist in 2010, and while Conatus is just slightly less addictive, it is worth checking out.  Her hair might be blonde now, her home might be a little more inviting, but there is still something slightly creepy about the caliginous secrets she whispers in your ear.  Another win for Sacred Bones.
