R.I.P. Jive Records

RCA Records has decided to close the doors on Jive, Arista and J Records, proving life really is…too short.  A quick glance over the current roster on these labels don’t reveal any reason to mourn, but there was a time when the Jive label could be found on stacks of cassette tapes and compact discs in my treasured collection.  I’m pretty sure DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince‘s He’s The DJ, I’m The Rapper was my first Jive purchase, but it was Too $hort‘s Life Is… and Born To Mack that still stand the test of time.  Other notable releases that wear the diamond emblem include BDP‘s By All Means Necessary and Ghetto Music, Spice One‘s self-titled debut, Pooh Man‘s Funky As I Wanna Be, A Tribe Called Quest‘s Midnight Marauders, The Click‘s Down & Dirty, as well as R. Kelly‘s earliest matertial.
