Dawn Golden And Rosy Cross – Blow
(Mad Decent, 2011)
This EP has been out for quite some time, but I’m just getting around to it. One of the earliest reviews of Dexter Tortoriello‘s bedroom project referred to it as ‘the perfect stuff for hangovers and comedowns‘, and while that may be true for some, I prefer the more forgiving sounds of his other project, Houses, when I’m in the hazy, lazy way on a ‘Sunday afternoon‘. Dawn Golden And Rosy Cross do not exist in the real word, my guess is they are Tortoiello‘s alter-egos — scapegoats for mistakes made at 4am. The one-armed assailants to pin the crime on. You gotta have someone to blame, just look at the stains on that sheet! He might not be able to remember what happened during the not-so golden dawn, but it wasn’t pretty. There is always a price to pay. The higher you fly, the lower the doldrums when you come down. Tortoiello‘s demons are escaping in sound, but they are being drown out by the pounding of a heavy heart and the throbbing of a regret filled mind.
