‘tell me when the pain kicks in’

Yuck – Yuck
(Fat Possum, 2011)

Yuck are a group of young individuals from all over the world who came together in London.  They make fuzzy, reverb soaked 90’s indie rock in the vein of Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain with some Sebadoh thrown in for good measure.  Wearing their influences like a badge, they still manage to sound fresh.  Maybe it’s the bizarre videos, maybe it’s their surprisingly mature musical aptitude or maybe it’s just because they don’t come off as ‘cute’ like so many of their contemporaries…whatever it is, Yuck is an intriguing listen, despite having one of the worst album covers of the year.
