Deerhunter – Halcyon Digest

Deerhunter – Halcyon Digest

It never excites me when Bradford Cox releases new music.  I approach every Deerhunter album as a task to be completed.  I know it’s not going to spark my interest on the first or even the third listen.  I know I’ll have to come back in a few weeks and see how I feel about it then.  Bradford‘s music, whether as Deerhunter, Atlas Sound or his other aliases, is not easy music.  It’s not easy, but it’s worth the work.   Once you peel back the layers, once you immerse yourself into his basement sounds, you find something incredible.  Bradford has described Halcyon Digest as his most experimental, which is strange because I find it his most accessible and though it will not be my favorite album of the year, I think it will go down as one of the most important.
