When I was 9 years old my family and I drove up to Washington to stay with my uncle and to attend the World’s Fair in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was my first time out of the country and I was pretty excited about a giant fair. But Expo ’86 was not what I expected. I don’t really remember very much of it, but I do remember it was unlike any fair I had ever been to. I wore Expo ’86 t-shirts, drank out of Expo ’86 cups and played with toys embossed with Expo ’86 logos until the end of that colorful decade.
After all these years I had forgot about Expo ’86 until I read that the guys from Wolf Parade had taken time off their numerous side projects to record a new album…an album that will be titled Expo ’86. I guess all the guys from the band were also at that World’s Fair in Canada all those years ago.
The album material will have nothing to do with the big fair though. It’s just a title. But the great news is they will be touring North America behind the album starting in July. Brooklyn Vegan is reporting they will be playing the Pitchfork Music Fest this year, but neither Pitchfork or Wolf Parade‘s fansite confirm this yet.
I was not impressed with the last Wolf Parade album. I preferred the latest from Handsome Furs and Sunset Rubdown. But hopefully Dan and Spencer can bring it together this time and give us something that can hold it’s own against Apologies to the Queen Mary.
