The Black Keys are the only duo I know that can pull off a headlining show at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver. Lord knows No Age tried when they opened for the Pixies‘ Doolittle tour and failed miserably. But Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have a unique talent of being able to fill large venues and rock large stages with their garage-blues rock ‘n roll.
Not being a huge fan of The Black Keys recorded work, especially their last Danger Mouse produced effort, I can say I am a huge fan of their live shows. There is just so much energy and so much sound that it’s hard to believe there are only two guys on that stage!
Last time I saw these guys was at the Mile High Music Festival. It was hot as hell, I was hungover as hell…and I still enjoyed the hell out of their set. They even converted a few of my friends who had not heard them before and were skeptial.
With a new album (also produced by Danger Mouse) out May 18th titled Brothers, the Keys will hit the road. They will be in Denver June 3rd. But those of you in the Bay Area can catch them Yuri’s Night Bay Area 2010 on April 10th.
