The Lost Lake Lounge sounds like it’s going to be a great spot. Matt LaBarge, co-owner of Hi-Dive and Sputnik, will open his new venue at Steele and Colfax on March 5th…bringing the South Broadway scene to East Colfax; merging the two Denver music hotspots.
“It will loosely resemble a cabin-styled lounge,” LaBarge said of the space at 3602 E. Colfax Ave., formerly the Bulldog Bar and Mr. Von’s Alamo before that. “I got a bunch of cabin-y kinda stuff from thrift stores — lake paintings in old wooden frames. Everything will be wooden and weird. And the place already looks like a lodge. It’s got a big wood-burning fireplace inside of it.”
The full article goes on to describe a sort of local music ‘hang-out’ where musicians will have freedom to do as they please. It sounds a lot like what went on at Ted’s Wrecking Yard in Toronto a decade ago. Who knows, maybe the next Broken Social Scene will be formed here in Denver?
It will be interesting to see what comes out of this space, but I am definitely looking forward to Taun Taun performing “Metallica’s ‘Kill ’em All’ straight through”.
