Derailed: Fucked Up – Couple Tracks: Singles 2002-2009

Every so often I will be posting under the ‘Derailed’ heading. This is for posts that are outside my normal comfort area…indie rock/pop.

So what’s there to say?  This is a collection of 25 Fucked Up songs.  For those of you who haven’t been following along since 2002’s No Pasaran 7″, and those who haven’t heard the 50 or so 7″‘s that followed, this is the perfect way to catch-up.

Those of you who have been following along will already know Fucked Up is a Toronto band that has brought hardcore back.  And they have brought it back in a huge way!

Pink Eyes,10,000 Marbles, Slumpy, Concentration Camp, Guinea Beat and Young Governor have made a name for themselves by touring constantly and putting out literally hundreds of singles, demos, tapes, 7″s, 12″s, and splits.  Not to mention two incredible LPs, Hidden World and The Chemistry of Common Life.

Fucked Up seem to have beeen born in the wrong time.  Listening to this stuff you would swear you were back in the mid-80’s and all this material was being released on Dischord.  But it’s not.  It’s the oo’s and most of this material came out on Matador RecordsFucked Up is on their roster right there next to Cat Power, Yo La Tengo and The New Pornographers.  Interesting company for sure, but not exactly Minor Threat or Dag Nasty.

So, even though I recommend the LPs over these singles, if you like hardcore or have EVER liked hardcore…check these Canandians out.  You will not be disappointed!
