Rewind: Washed Out – Life of Leisure EP (2009)

Ernest Green is Washed OutWashed Out is Ernest Greene.   He makes electronic music under the new chillwave subgenre.  As much as I hate to admit it, I think I like chillwave.  I liked it before I knew it had a name.   Being drawn to Neon Indian, Memory Tapes/Cassette and the first single from Washed Out, Feel It All Around, was new to me.  Electronic music rarely does it for me, but these projects were different somehow.  Doing more research into these bedroom/basement lo-fi pieces of art, I notice they were all tagged chillwaveLast.fm defines chillwave as “a new sound that is dominated by thick/chill synths that feel like it is supposed to sound like something that was playing in the background of an old VHS cassette that you found in your attic from the late 80s/early 90s.  It ALSO probably came out in 2009” That sums it up perfectly and this EP can be added to the Best of Chillwave list.  It makes me miss summer.

I think I dig this chillwave stuff too. Seems like it has a porno-background-music kind of vibe to it, which is a good thing!!!
