I am not going to do a Best of Decade list. I am going to post bands and albums that defined the past 10 years under the heading Decade:Zero. These will be posted throughout the year and decided by using random on itunes and posting when I come across something worth posting.
“I’m coming up only to hold you under”
From first chord of The First Song to the fade-out on St. Augustine, Everything All The Time is one of the best alt-country albums ever produced. Band of Horses has not come up in conversation recently because they haven’t released anything since 2007, but they are still one of my favorite bands of the last five years. This South Carolina via Seattle band has been overshadowed by the likes of My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver, but in my book, this band is better the the former and just as good as Bon Iver. Everything All The Time is by far one of the best albums of the decade. The album is tight, it has rockers like Weed Party, ballads like Part One and a commercial hit in The Funeral. They followed EATT with the exremely underrated Cease to Begin in 2007. Cease toned down their sound and was light on the ‘rockers’ but was still a great album, if not one of the best of the decade, at least in the top 10 of 2007.
Band of Horses are on tour right now and are coming to The Fox Theatre in Boulder. I have seen these guys a couple times now and they have never disappointed. In fact, their show at the Metro in Chicago was one of the best small venue shows I’ve ever been to.
Hope to see you in Boulder where I’m sure they will be debuting songs from their upcoming album, Night Rainbows.
