Brooklyn-based Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller represent everything that is wrong or right with music today. The answer depends on who you ask. As Sleigh Bells, they are performing and posting some lo-fi material that will either get your head bobbing or have you running out of the venue or hitting delete before you get a migraine. This is very lo-fi stuff with the volume turned up to ridiculous levels of distortion. Alexis (a school teacher) shouts repetitive lyrics while Derek plays repetitive notes while the computer blasts out distorted beats in the form of 1s and 0s. It’s a mess, but it’s a fantastic mess. This band has not released anything yet, and some of you might wonder who would ever put this ‘crap’ out. But give it some time and I think you’ll come around. If you are of the school of thought that this is what is ‘wrong’ with music, it’s probably because this duo does not have any discernable music-talent. If you are in the group that thinks this is what is ‘right’ with music, it’s because it’ s awesome that a band without talent can be so much fun and can be heard by so many people without a record deal. The Ramones prided themselves on not knowing how to play instruments. The Ramones repeated themselves incessivly throughout their songs. The Ramones are iconic. Just sayin’.
